The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation's (AACDCF) primary program, Give Back A Smile (GBAS), provides cosmetic dental care to survivors of domestic violence through a nationwide network of dental professionals. The AACDCF has established a program to help raise funds for the Foundation by having volunteers provide dental treatments to their patients in exchange for donations to this worthy cause. Domestic violence affects one in four women. This silent epidemic is cross-cultural, income defiant, and gender blind. It can happen to your mother, sister, brother, daughter, cousin, and/or neighbor.
The Give Back A Smile program was launched May 27, 1999. Generous AACD dentists, laboratory technicians, and other dental professionals have volunteered their time and expertise, pro bono, for the Give Back A Smile program. Since its inception, more than 700 domestic abuse cases have been completed totaling a dollar value of more than $7 million. Currently more than 400 applicants are being treated throughout the United States.
Those interested and qualified for help through the Give Back A Smile program should visit www.givebackasmile.com, call 800.773.GBAS (4227), or send an e-mail to givebackasmile@aacd.com. Donations to the Give Back A Smile program can be sent to the AACD Charitable Foundation, 5401 World Dairy Drive, Madison, Wisconsin 53718-3900.
